Texas Tech Lady Raiders Secure Historic 71-66 Win Over Mountaineers

The No. 17 Texas Tech Lady Raiders achieved a remarkable 71-66 victory against West Virginia on January 25, 2026, at Hope Coliseum. This win not only showcased their position at the top of the Big 12 standings but also marked their first triumph in Morgantown since January 14, 2015. It was only the third time in program history that Texas Tech has won on the road against West Virginia.

In a game characterized by intense competition, senior guard Bailey Maupin emerged as a standout performer, scoring a season-high 27 points, including 13 crucial points in the fourth quarter. After trailing by six points entering the final frame, Maupin’s scoring surge turned the tide in favor of the Lady Raiders. Her go-ahead three-pointer ignited a decisive 12-5 run that helped Texas Tech maintain control for the remainder of the game.

Maupin’s performance was impressive, shooting 53.3 percent from the floor with an 8-for-15 shooting record. She also achieved a career-high by making four three-pointers from seven attempts and was efficient at the free-throw line, going 7-for-8. In addition to her scoring, she contributed four rebounds, three assists, and a vital late steal that secured the victory.

As a result of this win, Texas Tech improved to 17-0 overall and 4-0 in Big 12 play. This start is the best in the program’s history and marks the first time since the 2004-05 season that the Lady Raiders have begun Big 12 competition with a perfect record.

Snudda Collins also played a significant role, contributing 19 points, which marked her 15th double-digit scoring performance of the season. Despite battling foul trouble, Jalynn Bristow anchored the team on the boards with nine rebounds and provided a career-high three assists. Denae Fritz continued her strong perimeter shooting, scoring nine points and grabbing eight rebounds, with three successful three-pointers for the second consecutive game.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, featuring 15 lead changes and five ties. Texas Tech demonstrated their skill by shooting 44.4 percent overall and an efficient 47.1 percent from beyond the arc. They also outperformed West Virginia on the boards, finishing with a 37-33 rebounding advantage and securing 16 offensive rebounds.

Defensively, Texas Tech limited West Virginia’s shooting to 38.7 percent from the field and just 28.6 percent from three-point range. Despite committing 20 turnovers, which allowed West Virginia to score 19 points, the Lady Raiders executed critical defensive stops in the closing minutes to clinch the win.
