Tyler Seguin Faces Season-Ending Injury After ACL Tear

Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin is anticipated to miss the remainder of the NHL season following a significant injury. Seguin suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during a game against the New York Rangers on March 12, 2024. Seguin’s injury occurred in the first period when he collided with Rangers defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. The 33-year-old forward was unable to skate and required assistance from teammates and an athletic trainer to leave the ice. Coach Glen Gulutzan confirmed the severity of the injury on March 13, stating that the team received disappointing news regarding Seguin’s condition after further evaluation.

“It’s not just us, it’s the league, and it’s very unfortunate,” Gulutzan remarked. “It’s a tough day for us today with the news. Other guys now have to step in and play.”

This latest setback is particularly challenging for Seguin, who missed a substantial portion of the previous season due to hip surgery. He made a return for the Stars’ playoff run, which saw the team reach the Western Conference finals. Gulutzan highlighted Seguin’s leadership and dedication, noting, “He’s a great leader for us, and he’s a great pro.”

Team Adjustments Following Injury

In the wake of Seguin’s injury, the Stars are adjusting their lineup for upcoming games. Nathan Bastian is expected to take Seguin’s place in the lineup against the New Jersey Devils. Looking ahead, the team is hopeful that center Matt Duchene can return from his own injury soon. If Duchene continues to progress, he could be back in action “sooner than later,” according to Gulutzan.

Gulutzan emphasized the importance of resilience in the face of adversity, stating, “You’re going to have to have other guys step up. If Duchy comes back, he’s going to have to take some of that. There’s going to be more opportunity for more guys, and then you’re going to see who takes it.”

As the Stars navigate this difficult time, the focus remains on maximizing opportunities for other players. The team aims to maintain their competitive edge despite the losses. “There’s lots of injuries piling up and lots of games, so we just got to keep moving forward,” Gulutzan added.
