Xabi Alonso Replacement Denies Real Madrid Coaching Speculation
Real Madrid Castilla manager Álvaro Arbeloa firmly dismissed any speculation regarding a potential promotion to the first team, responding with a straightforward “no” when questioned about the possibility on Saturday evening. The future of current head coach Xabi Alonso remains uncertain as the team struggles with recent performances, winning only two of their last eight matches.
Alonso, who previously managed Bayer Leverkusen, finds himself under significant pressure following a series of disappointing results, including a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League and a 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo. This lack of form has raised questions about his position at the club, leading to discussions about potential successors.
Among those speculated to take over is Arbeloa, who has been managing the club’s reserve team. Despite this speculation, he reiterated his commitment to Castilla, stating, “I’m a Castilla coach and I’m focused on it, on my players, on the games I have ahead of me, on training, and there is nothing else outside of that.” Arbeloa clarified that the club had not approached him regarding any succession plan, maintaining that his sole focus is on his current role.
Support for Alonso Amidst Uncertainty
While Arbeloa has declined to engage with rumors of his potential elevation to the first team, he expressed unwavering support for Alonso and the club. He remarked, “Anyone who thinks Real Madrid is dead is very wrong,” emphasizing the resilience of the 15-time European champions. Currently, Real Madrid trails Barcelona by seven points in the La Liga standings but possesses a game in hand against Alaves scheduled for Sunday.
The prospect of Arbeloa stepping into a managerial role echoes the path taken by former player Zinedine Zidane, who successfully transitioned from a reserve team manager to head coach of Real Madrid. Additionally, other names have emerged in connection with the potential vacancy, including Jürgen Klopp. However, Klopp’s recent statements indicate a desire to step back from coaching, given his current position as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull.
As the club navigates this turbulent period, the mounting pressure on Alonso intensifies. The uncertainty surrounding his future continues to fuel speculation about who might lead Real Madrid should a change occur. For now, Arbeloa remains focused on his responsibilities at Castilla, while the football world watches closely for developments at the Bernabéu.
