UPDATE: A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the tragic hit-and-run incident that killed a 14-year-old boy in Thornton, Colorado, just before 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Identified as Jeremy Nobles, the suspect is now facing serious charges, including careless driving causing serious bodily injury or death and failure to remain at the scene of a crash involving death, according to officials from the Thornton Police Department.

The heart-wrenching incident occurred near the intersection of Huron Street and West Thornton Parkway when the victim, riding a small motorized bike, was struck from behind by a 2013 BMW 328i. The vehicle fled the scene without stopping, prompting an immediate investigation.

Paramedics rushed the teenager to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The Adams County Coroner’s Office has stated that the victim’s identity will be released at a later date.

In a swift response, Thornton police developed a “strong lead” using a Flock Safety license plate reader, which captured the vehicle’s identifying information as it passed. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation utilized this data to issue a Medina Alert for the suspect vehicle, facilitating rapid action.

After the alert was issued, investigators contacted Nobles, who claimed his car was in Northglenn. He was arrested shortly thereafter and transported to the Adams County Jail.

In a statement, Thornton Police Chief Jim Baird expressed condolences, stating, “Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic crash.”

This incident underscores the urgent need for road safety and accountability for drivers involved in hit-and-run incidents. As the community mourns this devastating loss, officials are calling for increased awareness and caution on the roads.
