49ers Face Setback as Trent Williams, Ricky Pearsall Out vs. Seahawks
UPDATE: The San Francisco 49ers are facing a crucial setback as both Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams and receiver Ricky Pearsall are sidelined for their pivotal Week 18 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks due to injuries. This shocking development comes just hours before kickoff on December 28, 2025, in a game that could determine the division title.
Williams sustained an injury on the very first play during last week’s victory over the Chicago Bears and was deemed questionable leading up to this critical game. Unfortunately, he was unable to make an appearance. Pearsall, who has battled a nagging knee injury all season, is missing his eighth game despite being limited in practice throughout the week.
In Williams’ absence, rookie Austen Pleasants will make his first career start, with Brandon Parker elevated from the practice squad to serve as a reserve. Pearsall’s absence leaves a significant gap in the receiving corps, impacting the 49ers’ offensive strategy. He has accumulated 36 catches for 528 yards this season, and his absence means more opportunities for Kendrick Bourne and Demarcus Robinson.
On a positive note, the 49ers have welcomed back Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle, who returns after missing last week’s contest due to an ankle injury. Additionally, cornerback Upton Stout (concussion) and defensive end Keion White (groin) have been cleared to play after being listed as questionable.
As for the Seahawks, they are also dealing with injury challenges. Backup left tackle Josh Jones is active despite being listed as questionable due to ankle and knee issues, stepping in for the injured Charles Cross. Both teams have made several roster adjustments, with the Seahawks elevating running back Cam Akers and cornerback Tyler Hall from their practice squad for the matchup.
Fans and analysts will be watching closely as the 49ers try to overcome these injuries and secure a vital win against their division rivals. The stakes are incredibly high, and the impact of these absences could be felt throughout the playoffs.
Stay tuned for updates as this game develops, with kickoff just moments away.
