Bakersfield’s New Basement Venue Launches with Star-Studded Show
BREAKING: Bakersfield welcomes a new cultural hub as Woolworth’s Luncheonette opens its Basement venue today, January 31. Featuring an intimate atmosphere and a state-of-the-art sound system, this venue aims to revitalize the local music scene and unite the community through live performances.
The grand opening showcased talents like R&B artists David Davis and Niko Rubio, both performing in Bakersfield for the first time. With sleek furnishings, a bar area, and VIP seating, guests experienced music up close, feeling the beats resonate through their bodies. The vibrant lighting set an electrifying mood on the dance floor, enhancing the experience for over 300 attendees.
Owner Emily Waite emphasized the venue’s commitment to diverse musical genres, featuring local talents such as Jon Ranger, Monty Byrom, and Jennifer Keel. “We want to showcase the richness of our local music scene,” Waite stated, highlighting the importance of community engagement in a city known for its country roots.
Amidst the corporate landscape of Bakersfield, the Basement stands out as a beacon of support for local, family-owned businesses. General Manager Augie Petaja expressed optimism about the venue’s impact on the local economy. “When you attend a concert at an independent venue, you’re likely to dine out, benefiting local restaurants and hotels,” Petaja explained. “Having successful events can boost foot traffic in downtown Bakersfield and support surrounding businesses.”
The Basement not only serves as a platform for emerging artists but also fosters a sense of community. Attendees reported feeling “pleasantly surprised” by the warm reception given to the headliners’ fresh sounds, despite the venue’s country-focused roots.
Looking ahead, the Basement will host the Warped Band for their first performance in years on February 28, 2026, promising to continue the momentum and excitement that the grand opening generated.
As the Basement establishes itself as a cornerstone of Bakersfield’s cultural landscape, locals and visitors alike are encouraged to explore new sounds and support the thriving music scene. Don’t miss out on this pivotal moment for local entertainment—mark your calendars and get ready to experience live music like never before!
