Beloved Coach David N. Daniels Passes Away at 86 in Enfield
BREAKING: David N. Daniels, a cherished figure in the Enfield community, has passed away peacefully at the age of 86. His family confirmed the news today following his death on January 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship and dedication to sports.
Daniels, known for his remarkable 35-year career as a baseball coach and Athletic Director at the University of Connecticut Hartford Division, touched countless lives through his passion for sports. Born on February 19, 1939, in Middletown, he was the beloved husband of 44 years to Jeanne Daniels, and his commitment to his family was as profound as his dedication to athletics.
Following his retirement in 1998, Daniels devoted more than 20 years volunteering with the former Enfield Fish & Wildlife organization, showcasing his love for the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and sports. He was an active umpire in Enfield’s adult softball leagues and contributed as a baseball referee, further enriching the athletic scene in his community.
In addition to his wife, Daniels is survived by his children: Tracey Stankiewicz and husband Tom, Scott Daniels and wife Catherine, Tammy Arthurs and husband John, Heather Rounbehler, Stephen Clapp and wife Rebecca, and Tracey Bonanni and husband Craig. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will carry his memory forward. His sister, Diane Mahoney, and her husband John also mourn his passing.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, located at 61 South Road, Enfield. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 PM to celebrate his life and achievements.
Daniels’ impact on the Enfield community is immeasurable, resonating through the many lives he influenced. His legacy as a mentor, coach, and outdoor enthusiast will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
