Blue Jays Rookie Trey Yesavage to Start World Series Game 1
UPDATE: The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that rookie Trey Yesavage will start Game 1 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and star pitcher Blake Snell this Friday, September 15, 2025. This marks a historic moment as Yesavage becomes the first rookie to start Game 1 of the World Series since 2006.
Yesavage, just 22 years old, made his major league debut less than a month ago on September 15. He has quickly climbed the ranks, now boasting more postseason starts than regular-season games, with four postseason outings compared to just three regular-season appearances. This meteoric rise has captured the attention of baseball fans everywhere.
In his brief but impactful career, Yesavage has demonstrated remarkable skill, including a devastating splitter that has helped him to a 3.21 ERA in three September starts, during which he struck out 16 batters over 14 innings. His standout performance came in the Division Series against the New York Yankees, where he threw 5 1/3 scoreless, hitless innings while striking out 11.
Head coach John Schneider is still deliberating on the Game 2 starter from a pool that includes Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer, and Shane Bieber. Schneider emphasized the decision to hold Gausman back after he threw 19 pitches in relief during Game 7 of the ALCS earlier this week.
The Dodgers confirmed earlier this week that Blake Snell will take the mound for Game 1, followed by Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 2. This matchup sets the stage for an electrifying clash between the two teams, with the Dodgers looking to defend their championship title.
Yesavage’s rapid ascent underscores the unpredictability and excitement of postseason baseball. As fans eagerly await Game 1, all eyes will be on the rookie’s performance against a seasoned Dodgers lineup.
This high-stakes game is a must-watch for baseball enthusiasts and could significantly impact the series. Stay tuned for updates as Game 1 approaches, and watch for potential shifts in strategy from both teams as they vie for the championship title.
