Chef Gizela Ho Launches Good Morning 96 in San Francisco
BREAKING: Chef Gizela Ho, formerly of Rich Table, is set to launch her own restaurant, Good Morning 96, in San Francisco. After four transformative years at Rich Table, Ho’s new venture promises a fresh culinary experience that highlights seasonal and produce-driven dishes inspired by her upbringing in Guam and culinary experiences in Hong Kong.
Ho’s ambitious project marks a significant trend in San Francisco’s dining scene, which is increasingly favoring intimate and personality-driven eateries. Her journey to this pivotal moment began at UC Davis, where she initially studied biochemistry before pursuing her passion for cooking at the Culinary Institute of America in Napa. Ho first joined Rich Table in 2014, eventually earning the title of chef de cuisine and honing the restaurant’s market-driven style, recognized by the Michelin Guide.
The concept behind Good Morning 96 is unique. Ho aims to create a menu that is not confined to any single cuisine, featuring “snacky” sections with just two rotating entrees, ensuring a dynamic dining experience. Early menu highlights include a refreshing cold glass noodle salad with spicy shiso vinaigrette, grilled Monterey squid, and a seasonal pizookie dessert, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
The name Good Morning 96 draws inspiration from a Hong Kong kitchen towel brand, Guam’s local motto, and the year Ho’s grandfather opened a storefront, adding a personal touch to her culinary identity.
This opening aligns with a growing pattern in the Bay Area, where chefs from esteemed kitchens are launching smaller, more personal restaurants. Rich Table has previously inspired successful offshoots, such as RT Rotisserie, reflecting the evolving landscape of San Francisco’s food scene.
Currently, Ho is actively searching for a brick-and-mortar location and has yet to announce an official opening date. As she finalizes her venue and builds her team, more details about Good Morning 96 are expected to emerge.
What remains clear is that Ho’s new restaurant fits perfectly into the wave of San Francisco dining that emphasizes personal narratives and seasonal ingredients. The anticipation surrounding Good Morning 96 is palpable, making it a highly anticipated addition to the city’s vibrant culinary landscape.
Stay tuned for updates on Ho’s progress as she prepares to unveil this exciting new concept. Good Morning 96 is destined to be a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts eager to experience her innovative take on dining.
