Colorado Buffs Surge in Second Half to Defeat UTSA 88-64
UPDATE: The Colorado Buffaloes have decisively bounced back from their first loss of the season, dominating the second half to secure an impressive 88-64 victory over the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners at the CU Events Center earlier today. This win improves the Buffaloes’ record to 9-1 for the season.
After a sluggish start, where Colorado led by just 35-32 at halftime, the team unleashed a powerful performance, scoring the first nine points after the break as part of a game-changing 17-2 run. The Buffaloes shot a remarkable 62.2% from the field in the second half, completely overwhelming UTSA’s defense.
Colorado’s standout player, point guard Barrington Hargress, delivered a season-high performance, hitting 9-for-12 from the field and sinking five three-pointers to finish with 23 points. He was instrumental in shifting the momentum in the second half, leading the Buffaloes to a commanding victory.
Alongside Hargress, Sebastian Rancik made a significant impact, contributing 15 points—with 12 of those in the second half—and grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds. Bangot Dak also played a notable role, recording 10 points, four assists, and two blocked shots, showcasing the depth of the Buffaloes’ roster.
Defensively, Colorado stifled UTSA’s attack, allowing them to shoot just 33.3% (12-for-36) in the second half after a more productive first half where the Roadrunners managed a 46.4% mark.
The Buffaloes also dominated the boards, out-rebounding UTSA 48-32, further emphasizing their control of the game. Colorado’s crisp passing led to a total of 21 assists against UTSA’s 14, reflecting their efficient ball movement and teamwork.
“We really came together in the second half and played our game,” said Hargress after the match. “It feels great to bounce back like this.”
With this pivotal win, Colorado sets a strong tone for their upcoming games as they aim to maintain their winning momentum. The team will be looking to build on this performance as they head into their next matchup.
Stay tuned for updates as the Buffaloes continue their season and strive for a spot in the postseason.
