Doris Ann Peterson, 88, Passes Away Surrounded by Family
UPDATE: Doris Ann (Hecimovich) Peterson, aged 88, has passed away on October 17, 2025, in Duluth, MN, surrounded by her beloved family. This heartbreaking news comes as the community mourns the loss of a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend.
Born on December 27, 1936, in Ashland, WI, Doris was a vibrant member of her community. She graduated from DePadua Catholic High School in 1956 and later married her husband, Robert (Bob) Peterson, on August 31, 1957. Together, they raised four sons in Duluth, creating a warm and loving environment that emphasized family values.
Throughout her life, Doris dedicated herself to the education and nurturing of children. She served as a teacher’s aide at St. Michael’s Raggedy Ann Pre-school, a position she held with joy and dedication. Her patience and compassion extended beyond the classroom, as she volunteered at the church’s Used A Bit store and participated in funeral lunches, embodying a spirit of service and community involvement.
Family gatherings were the highlight of Doris’s life. She cherished holidays and special occasions, particularly Fourth of July picnics in Ashland with her siblings, children, and grandchildren. Known for her sharp wit and infectious humor, Doris brought joy to those around her, even in her final days.
Doris is remembered fondly by her surviving children: Steve (Donna) Peterson, Mike (Kris) Peterson, and Craig (Lynn) Peterson. She is also survived by her sister, Joanne Hecimovich, her brother, Lawrence (Donna) Hecimovich, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Jake, David, Kaley, Nicole, Ryan, Max, Cole, Cora, Alice, Aubrey, Ava, Grady, and Hallie.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff at Ecumen Lakeshore for their compassionate care during Doris’s final moments. In accordance with Doris’s wishes, a private family service will be held to celebrate her remarkable life.
This loss resonates deeply within the Duluth community, where Doris’s legacy of love, laughter, and service will undoubtedly live on. As tributes pour in, family and friends reflect on the significant impact she made throughout her life.
