Elderly Woman Dies, Firefighters Injured in College Point Blaze
URGENT UPDATE: A devastating house fire in College Point has claimed the life of an elderly woman and left two firefighters injured. The incident occurred early on October 27, with emergency services responding to the scene at 5:16 AM.
The FDNY received a distress call regarding a fire on the first floor of a two-and-a-half-story residence located at 124-07 26th Ave. In a swift response, 14 fire units and 70 firefighters and EMS personnel were dispatched to control the fierce blaze. The fire was declared under control by 6:37 AM, but the damage had already taken a tragic turn.
During the search for potential victims, responders discovered an 85-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive inside the home. Despite immediate medical attention from EMS, who swiftly transported her to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, she was later pronounced dead due to her injuries.
As of now, the victim’s identity has not been disclosed, pending notification of her family. In addition, two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were also treated at the same hospital.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by FDNY fire marshals, with officials confirming that further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
