UPDATE: Families in Sioux Falls, S.D., flocked to the Washington Pavilion on October 14, 2023, for a vibrant celebration of agriculture during the annual Ag Day. This free event featured hands-on activities that engaged attendees of all ages, emphasizing the critical role of agriculture in South Dakota and beyond.

The event was designed to educate families about the journey of food from farm to table, showcasing the importance of farmers in everyday life. Anna Rose, Development Associate with the Washington Pavilion, stated, “Agriculture means a lot to South Dakota. It’s an incredible opportunity to bring agriculture to people in our community. Everyone eats food every day, and without farmers, we don’t have food.”

In addition to the Ag Day festivities, families were encouraged to explore the Kirby Science Discovery Center and the Visual Arts Center, making the day a comprehensive learning experience filled with excitement and exploration.

This year’s event fostered a sense of community and connection, bringing families together to appreciate the agricultural roots of their state. The hands-on activities were designed not just for fun, but to impart vital knowledge about where their food comes from and the hard work that goes into producing it.

With the growing interest in sustainable practices and local farming, Ag Day stands as a crucial reminder of the agricultural sector’s impact on daily lives. As the day unfolded, families left with a deeper understanding of agriculture, making memories and learning together in the heart of Sioux Falls.
