FBI Thwarts ISIS-Inspired New Year’s Eve Attack in North Carolina

BREAKING: The FBI has successfully disrupted an alleged terror plot targeting a grocery store in Mint Hill, North Carolina, on New Year’s Eve. Authorities arrested Christian Sturdivant, an 18-year-old man inspired by ISIS, just hours before he was reportedly set to carry out the attack.

He believed this agent was affiliated with ISIS and discussed his plans to unleash terror on innocent shoppers preparing for the holiday. According to law enforcement officials, he intended to use knives and hammers to target individuals based on their religious and sexual identities, specifically aiming at “Jews, Christians, and LGBTQ individuals.”

During the raid on his home, officers discovered weapons hidden under his bed, including hammers and knives, alongside notes detailing his attack strategy. “He was preparing for jihad, and innocent people were going to die,” stated US Attorney Russ Ferguson, highlighting the imminent danger Sturdivant posed to the community.

This alarming incident has sent shockwaves through the small town of Mint Hill, located just outside Charlotte, North Carolina. “We could be announcing a national tragedy. Instead, a terrorist attack was thwarted,” remarked James Barnacle, an FBI Special Agent in Charlotte. The community is now grappling with the reality that a potential mass casualty event was narrowly avoided.

Sturdivant had previously come under FBI scrutiny in January 2022 while still a minor, when officials discovered his communications with an ISIS member based in Europe. He had received instructions to carry out attacks while dressed entirely in black. The disturbing nature of his plans has led to heightened security concerns among local residents.

In a desperate attempt to prevent his grandson from carrying out the attack, Sturdivant’s family reportedly secured their home, with his grandfather locking away knives and hammers. However, additional weapons were still found during the FBI’s operation.
