URGENT UPDATE: Travel chaos grips the U.S. for the third consecutive day as more than 2,200 flights were canceled and over 7,500 flights delayed on Sunday. The ongoing disruptions are raising alarms among travelers and airline staff alike, with millions expected to fly for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

Reports from the flight tracking service FlightAware reveal the staggering numbers, leaving many passengers stranded or scrambling for alternatives. At Fresno Yosemite Airport, travelers reported a reprieve from delays and cancellations, but local travel agents remain on high alert.

Cathyrn Doty, a travel planner with Not Your Evil Stepmother’s Vacation Planner, shared her daily routine, stating, “That is one of the first things that I do every morning: I am monitoring the cancellations because I do have clients that are traveling.” Doty emphasizes the necessity of staying prepared as the unprecedented disruptions continue.

As the situation unfolds, AAA is actively monitoring travel expectations, with spokesman Doug Johnson predicting that travel will peak on Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, as well as on the following Sunday. This surge in travel coincides with ongoing government shutdown concerns, further complicating the travel landscape.

Travel experts advise passengers to remain flexible amidst the turmoil. “It’s going to be important to roll with delays and cancellations,” they assert, urging travelers to adjust their plans as needed.

As the nation gears up for one of the busiest travel periods of the year, the impacts of these cancellations are being felt across the board. Families and friends may face disruptions in their holiday gatherings, adding emotional strain to what should be a joyous occasion.
