Front Range Wrestling Teams Gear Up for 2025-26 Season Showdown

UPDATE: As the 2025-26 wrestling season approaches, teams across the Front Range are gearing up for intense competition, with many returning star athletes aiming for state glory. Coaches and wrestlers are reporting heightened anticipation and preparation as the season kicks off in just a few weeks.

The Broomfield Eagles aim to bounce back from a disappointing 16th place finish at last year’s state tournament. Coach Jimmy Zechmann is optimistic after qualifying eight wrestlers and placing one at the 5A state tournament. Spotlight athletes include seniors Nick Penfold (157, No. 4) and Jack Goodwin (150, No. 5), plus junior Asher Diamond (132, No. 6). “We hope to finish in the top 10 at Ball Arena this February,” Zechmann stated.

The Boulder Panthers are also excited, featuring team captains Isaac Wing (Sr., 165, No. 13) and Alex Smith (Sr., 190). Coach William Leboeuf emphasized the team’s growth, particularly with sophomore Ollie Reynolds (132), who is showing significant improvement after narrowly missing state qualification last year.

In a similar vein, the Centaurus Warriors, led by Coach Arturo Mata, are banking on the leadership of veterans like Aaron Aldama (190) and Carson Thomas (150). “Our team is all in on hard work,” Mata said, as they look to improve from last year’s two state qualifiers.

The Erie Tigers are returning strong, with senior Tyler Muir (157, No. 6) leading a group of four returning state qualifiers. Coach Joe Ferrera noted the challenges ahead after losing six seniors but sees potential in his remaining athletes.

The Fairview Knights are working under new head coach Marcus May, who hopes to harness the legacy of former coach Jim Opperman. May is focused on improving from last season’s 42nd place finish, with senior Peyton Pacheco back in the 190s.

Additionally, the Legacy Lightning look to build on last season’s performance under Coach Michael Thompson. Senior Matthew Clifton, who finished third in the 132-pound class last year, is key to their ambitions.

Meanwhile, the Monarch Coyotes are under new leadership as Cole Polluconi takes over, aiming to capitalize on returning talent like junior Levi Carlucci (157), who is currently ranked second.

In the Class 4A division, the Frederick Golden Eagles are looking to make a splash with junior Nacoa Meisinger (heavyweight, No. 6) stepping up. Coach Benito Gutierrez is optimistic about his young team’s potential.

The Longmont Trojans and Mead Mavericks are also preparing for competitive seasons, with senior Carter Woods (4A, 190) leading the Mavericks after a strong football season.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on these teams and athletes as they prepare for the 5A, 4A, and 3A state tournaments in February. Expect thrilling matches and significant developments as these young athletes vie for their place in the spotlight.
