UPDATE: Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks due to a right calf injury sustained during a nail-biting game against the Denver Nuggets on February 2, 2024. This news comes just after the Bucks’ narrow 102-100 loss, raising alarms for the struggling team.

Antetokounmpo revealed he will undergo an MRI on Saturday for further evaluation of the injury, which limited his performance throughout the match. “After the MRI, they will tell me, probably, I popped something in my calf on my soleus or something,” he stated, indicating the severity of the issue.

The injury occurred in the first quarter, forcing Antetokounmpo to briefly leave the game before returning with a wrap around his calf. Despite his attempts to push through the pain, he acknowledged, “I was feeling it majority of the game but did not want to stop playing. But at the end, I could not move no more.”

Bucks coach Doc Rivers expressed concern over Antetokounmpo’s condition, noting he suspected the star was favoring his leg during the second half. “I didn’t like what my eyes were seeing, personally. Giannis was defiant about staying in,” Rivers remarked.

This injury adds to a troubling trend for Antetokounmpo, who has faced similar calf issues in recent seasons. In December, he missed three weeks due to a right soleus strain, which also impacted his performance during the 2024 playoffs. “This calf keeps coming up and it’s concerning,” Rivers added, highlighting the ongoing risk for the athlete.

In Friday’s game, Antetokounmpo managed to score 22 points, alongside 13 rebounds and 7 assists, in just 32 minutes of play. The Bucks attempted a late-game comeback, cutting a 23-point deficit down to just two, but ultimately fell short as Antetokounmpo visibly struggled.

“For me to stop playing and not be able to move? It was extremely painful,” he reflected, emphasizing his determination to contribute to the team despite the injury. Milwaukee has now lost five of its last six games, leaving them with an 18-26 record and sitting in 11th place in the standings, trailing the Atlanta Hawks by 2.5 games for the final play-in spot.

As the Bucks face a challenging path ahead without their star player, Antetokounmpo remains hopeful. “I’m going to work my butt off to come back,” he declared. “That will probably be the end of February, beginning of March. Hopefully, the team will be in a place that we can at least make the play-in or the playoffs.”

Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as Milwaukee navigates the next few weeks without their key player, with significant implications for their playoff aspirations.
