Hexagon’s Tech Boosts Oracle Red Bull Racing’s F1 Precision NOW
UPDATE: Hexagon’s cutting-edge metrology technology is transforming how Oracle Red Bull Racing (ORBR) achieves precision in Formula 1, and this is happening RIGHT NOW. As the 2024 racing season heats up, the stakes could not be higher, with milliseconds making the difference between victory and defeat.
In an exclusive visit to ORBR’s headquarters in Milton Keynes, TechRadar Pro witnessed firsthand how Hexagon’s innovations are elevating the team’s performance. With the FIA imposing strict regulations on car specifications, every fraction of a second counts. “We turn microns into milliseconds,” said Jason Walker, VP of General Manufacturing at Hexagon, emphasizing the importance of precision in the high-speed world of F1 racing.
The FIA sets rigorous standards for car weight, height, and width, with violations resulting in severe penalties, including disqualifications. Thanks to Hexagon’s advanced laser scanning technology, ORBR can meticulously measure the car, track, and even environmental factors to ensure compliance and optimal performance. The team utilizes the Absolute Scanner AS1, which scans at an astonishing 1.2 million points per second, capable of detecting even the thinnest layer of paint.
Hexagon’s technology has redefined measurement standards in F1. Previously reliant on an aluminum block to assess ride height, teams now use Hexagon’s Leica Absolute Tracker AT960 for unparalleled accuracy. This shift allows ORBR to push the limits of regulations while maximizing performance. “For Red Bull, it’s all about speed,” Walker added.
The collaboration between Hexagon and ORBR is a game-changer. “It’s more than the tech itself; it’s the partnership,” stated Sophia Heath, Red Bull’s Technical Recruitment Engineer. Hexagon engineers work closely with Red Bull’s team to turn data into actionable insights at lightning speed, ensuring that every component is manufactured to exact specifications and reassembled flawlessly, crucial for the team’s success.
In just two years, ORBR has reduced faults by 50% using Hexagon’s rapid scanning technologies, drastically improving their chances of on-track success. The race to the finish line is not merely about speed; it’s about precision engineering and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Oracle Red Bull Racing to see how Hexagon’s innovative solutions continue to propel the team towards victory. This partnership is not just about winning races but redefining what’s possible in the world of Formula 1.
Stay tuned for more updates as the racing season unfolds, and watch for how technology is reshaping the landscape of F1 racing, one millisecond at a time.
