Local Photographer Marc Brannan’s Work Shines at OzSBI Exhibit

URGENT UPDATE: Local artist Marc Brannan is captivating audiences with his stunning photography now on display at the Ozarks Small Business Incubator (OzSBI). The exhibit, showcasing Brannan’s work, is open to the public through the end of March 2023, offering a unique opportunity to experience the artistry of the Ozarks.

This quarterly exhibition is part of a collaborative effort between the West Plains Council on the Arts and OzSBI, aimed at highlighting local talent on the incubator’s first floor. Visitors can view the collection during OzSBI’s business hours, which are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays.

Brannan, a resident of West Plains who grew up near Willow Springs, specializes in historical and nature photography. His work poignantly focuses on preserving the rich history of disappearing landmarks, including the one-room schoolhouses that hold personal significance due to his mother’s experiences.

“I have always enjoyed the stories of my mom attending one-room schools when she was a kid,” Brannan stated. “I think that is a big reason I seek them out to photograph today. I love incorporating them into my landscape photography as much as I can, especially as a way of preserving their history.”

Brannan’s portfolio extends beyond historical structures; it also includes breathtaking nature, wildlife, and astral photography. The pieces selected for this exhibition reflect a diverse range of local Ozarks settings alongside stunning scenes from other regions.

“I have focused more on bringing the art out in my pictures, taking a simple pic and showing the viewer that there is so much more around us than we typically take time to see,” he added, emphasizing his mission to deepen viewers’ appreciation for their surroundings.
