Lynn Man Sentenced to 2 Years for Violent Death Threats
UPDATE: A Lynn man, Justin David Gaglio, was sentenced to two years in prison for making violent threats against an elected official. The ruling was issued on October 24, 2024, by U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani, marking a significant moment in a case that has raised serious concerns about political safety.
Gaglio, aged 51, pleaded guilty to one count of transmitting interstate threats on September 9, 2024. His actions began around January 2023, during which he bombarded the elected official with over 80 different messages via the official’s website—often sending multiple messages within minutes. This persistent harassment escalated alarmingly, culminating in a particularly chilling threat sent on or about September 8, 2024.
In that threatening message, Gaglio stated he was “contemplating going [to the elected official’s] home and butchering” their family, claiming they would “die a horrific death.” This blatant menace not only targeted the official but also instilled fear in their loved ones, highlighting the disturbing trend of threats against public figures.
U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley emphasized the seriousness of Gaglio’s threats, stating, “Such behavior will not be tolerated, and we will pursue justice to protect our officials and their families.” The investigation was supported by multiple agencies, including the FBI, U.S. Capitol Police, and local law enforcement from Lynn and Salem.
Gaglio’s sentence includes three years of supervised release following his prison term, a measure intended to ensure he does not repeat his offenses. As threats against elected officials continue to rise, this case serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by those in public service.
Officials urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious communications. As this developing story unfolds, many are left to wonder how such threats will shape the future of political discourse in the United States.
Stay tuned for updates as authorities continue to address the implications of this case.
