Moorhead High’s Brady Steffen Nominated for U.S. Air Force Academy
UPDATE: A bright future awaits Brady Steffen, a 17-year-old senior at Moorhead High School, who has just been nominated to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This prestigious nomination comes from Rep. Michelle Fischbach, making him one of ten students from western Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District selected for U.S. service academies.
Brady has dreamed of becoming a pilot, inspired by his maternal grandmother’s military service. “It’s just a great experience, following my dream of being a pilot and serving my country,” he stated, highlighting his commitment to follow in his family’s footsteps.
The nomination process was rigorous, requiring Brady to submit an application, letters of recommendation, a personal essay, and standardized test scores. He achieved an impressive 3.98 unweighted GPA and 4.5 weighted GPA, excelling in advanced classes like AP Calculus and AP Statistics. His academic prowess is complemented by athletic achievements, including being part of the state championship-winning Moorhead Spuds hockey team.
Brady balances a demanding schedule filled with sports and clubs, including the Key Club and Environmental Club. He efficiently manages his commitments with an organizational approach learned during his early education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Moorhead. His father, Paul Steffen, expressed immense pride in his son’s accomplishments, stating, “He’s got a lot of followers and a lot of people that love him and are proud of him.”
The Air Force Academy offers a path to a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as an officer in the U.S. military, with a commitment of at least five years of active duty. “My goal in life is to be the best person I can be,” Brady shared, expressing excitement about the challenges that await him in July 2024.
This nomination is a significant milestone for Brady Steffen, reflecting not only his dedication but also the support of his community and family. As he prepares for this next chapter, he stands as an inspiring example of ambition and service.
