New York Governor Hochul Unveils Urgent 3D-Printed Gun Proposals

UPDATE: New York Governor Kathy Hochul has just announced groundbreaking proposals targeting the rising threat of 3D-printed guns and illegal firearms in a bold move to enhance public safety. The proposals aim to implement stringent new regulations, reinforcing New York’s already robust gun laws.

Governor Hochul’s plan includes introducing severe penalties for the unauthorized manufacturing and possession of digital firearm schematics. Alvin Bragg, New York County District Attorney, expressed the critical need for these measures, stating, “These illegal firearms are being manufactured in homes and used in crimes right now.” He emphasized the collaboration with law enforcement and the private sector to halt the proliferation of such firearms.

The proposals have garnered support from various gun safety advocates, including Angela Ferrell-Zabala, Executive Director of Moms Demand Action, who highlighted the dual focus on prevention and accountability essential for combating the rise of DIY machine guns.

Under Hochul’s leadership, New York has invested $1.27 billion in initiatives aimed at reducing gun violence. The upcoming FY 2026 budget allocates $347 million specifically for gun violence prevention measures, which will fund community outreach, law enforcement upgrades, and youth programs designed to deter at-risk individuals from gun-related activities.
