UPDATE: The New York Road Runners just launched an exciting youth event in Central Park, attracting over 2,500 young runners aged 2 to 18 this morning. This vibrant gathering marks the kickoff of the marathon festivities leading up to the TCS New York City Marathon next weekend.

Held at West Drive, just south of West 67th Street, the free event featured a variety of races, games, and family activities. It serves as a crucial part of the Rising New York Road Runners program, which supports 200,000 students nationwide, including 100,000 in New York City alone.

The energy in Central Park was palpable as children dashed through the park, embodying the spirit of community and athleticism. Local officials emphasize the importance of such events in fostering a love for running among the youth. “We are thrilled to see so many young participants eager to take part,” said a spokesperson for the New York Road Runners.

This event is just the beginning of a week filled with marathon-themed activities, culminating on November 2, 2025, when over 50,000 runners from around the world will take to the streets of New York City. Runners of all experience levels, ages, genders, abilities, and backgrounds will unite in this iconic race.

As the marathon race week unfolds, the New York Road Runners will host more than 20 free youth events throughout the year, continuing their mission to inspire the next generation of runners. The excitement is building—stay tuned for more updates as the marathon approaches!
