NWCAVE to Honor Sergeant Tanya Wollstein with Justice Award

The National Women’s Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE) will honor Sergeant Tanya Wollstein of the Vancouver Police Department with the prestigious 2026 Spotlight For Justice Award on March 8, 2026. This recognition will take place during NWCAVE’s annual event, Java for Justice, which coincides with International Women’s Day.

Recognizing a Legacy of Advocacy

Sergeant Wollstein has dedicated her career to serving in the VPD’s Domestic Violence Unit, where she has displayed an unwavering commitment to protecting and empowering victims of domestic and sexual violence. Her leadership has led to the development and implementation of crucial policies, including the department’s lethality assessment protocol and the Sexual Assault Investigation Policy. These initiatives have significantly strengthened the agency’s victim-centered approach to justice.

Beyond her contributions within the city, Sergeant Wollstein has made a profound impact on the broader community. She played a pivotal role in establishing the Clark County Electronic Monitoring with Victim Notification Technology program, which provides survivors with advanced tools to enhance their safety and peace of mind. Her advocacy also contributed to the passage of the Tiffany Hill Act, landmark legislation that continues to save lives in Washington state.

National Influence and Training

In addition to her local efforts, Sergeant Wollstein is recognized nationally as a trainer and expert in domestic violence and sexual assault investigations. She regularly provides advanced instruction to law enforcement agencies and partner organizations throughout the United States, further extending her influence in the field.

The Spotlight For Justice Award is part of NWCAVE’s recognition program, designed to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to justice and advocacy through media, education, or public awareness. Past recipients include notable figures such as Jason Houser and Dr. Kathie Mathis.
