UPDATE: Oracle has just announced a groundbreaking expansion of its partnership with AMD, unveiling a supercluster powered by a staggering 50,000 AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs during the AI World 2025 conference. This move positions Oracle as the world’s first hyperscaler to offer publicly available superclusters of this size, marking a significant shift in the competitive landscape of AI infrastructure.

The announcement, made earlier today, highlights Oracle’s commitment to integrating AMD technologies into its offerings, despite its existing collaboration with Nvidia. The supercluster will utilize AMD’s latest components across its Helios rack architecture, featuring next-gen AMD EPYC ‘Venice’ CPUs and Pensando ‘Vulcano’ networking technology.

This development comes as Oracle aims to redefine its role in the cloud computing market, focusing on delivering AI solutions directly to clients. By partnering with AMD, Oracle is expanding its options for customers, providing robust, scalable, and high-performance infrastructure that offers the best price-performance ratio in the industry.

According to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Executive Vice President Mahesh Thiagarajan, this partnership reflects a direct response to customer demands for a secure and scalable cloud foundation. “Our goal is to bring AI to your data, not the other way around,” Thiagarajan stated.

The new Helios racks are designed for high efficiency, featuring a liquid-cooled setup supporting up to 72 GPUs per rack. Each GPU will be provisioned with up to three 800 Gbps ‘Vulcano’ AI-NICs, capable of delivering 432GB of HBM4 and an impressive 20 TB/s of memory bandwidth. This configuration allows customers to train and infer models that are 50% larger than previous generations, enhancing overall performance dramatically.

In addition, OCI has confirmed the general availability of its OCI Compute service, which includes 131,072 AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs in the newly launched zettascale Supercluster. This substantial upgrade is set to empower businesses with cutting-edge AI capabilities.

Following the announcement, AMD’s stock surged by approximately 8.7%, reflecting investor confidence in the partnership’s potential to reshape the AI infrastructure landscape.

As the AI World 2025 conference continues, all eyes are on Oracle and AMD, with industry experts eagerly anticipating further developments. The urgency of this announcement underscores the competitive dynamics in the tech sector, where choices and innovations are crucial for businesses navigating the AI revolution.
