Patriots’ TreVeyon Henderson Shines Despite Late Fumble vs. Browns
UPDATE: In a thrilling matchup, rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson showcased his talent in the New England Patriots’ 32-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns on October 29, 2023. Despite a late-game fumble that could have marred his performance, Henderson’s breakout game highlighted his potential as a key player moving forward.
The game was nearly flawless for the Patriots, with Henderson making a significant impact as the team pulled ahead. However, during New England’s final possession, Henderson fumbled just six yards from the end zone, an unfortunate blip in an otherwise stellar outing. “It’s a learning lesson,” Henderson stated after the game, emphasizing the need for improved ball security. The fumble was inconsequential, as the Patriots had already secured a commanding 30-13 lead with under five minutes remaining.
Henderson’s performance marked a turning point in his season. Previously a depth piece, he carried the ball 10 times for 75 yards, a season high against one of the league’s toughest run defenses. The Browns had entered the game allowing just 3.3 yards per carry, the best in the NFL.
Henderson’s explosive abilities were evident early on, including a standout 12-yard run on the second offensive snap and an impressive 18-yard gain during the first drive. His performance suggests he could become an integral part of the Patriots’ offense as they head into the second half of the season.
Drafted in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft from Ohio State, Henderson was expected to be a game-changer. After a slow start, he is now finding his stride. “I’ve definitely been getting more comfortable as the season’s evolved,” he remarked post-game.
Looking ahead, Henderson faces favorable matchups against defenses that have struggled against the run. The Patriots will next take on the Atlanta Falcons, who are ranked in the bottom half of the league for rushing yards allowed. This opens the door for Henderson to further establish himself as a reliable option alongside starter Rhamondre Stevenson.
With upcoming games against the New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, and New York Giants—all of whom rank among the bottom ten in rushing defense—Henderson has the opportunity to build on this performance and become a late-blooming star for the Patriots.
As the Patriots continue their pursuit of success, the spotlight is now firmly on TreVeyon Henderson. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if this game marks the beginning of a significant transformation in his rookie season.
