UPDATE: Peacock has just announced groundbreaking enhancements for the 2026 NFL season, revolutionizing how fans experience games. During the CES conference in Las Vegas, officials revealed that viewers will soon have the power to control crowd noise levels and mute announcers, creating a more personalized broadcast experience.

The streaming service, owned by NBCUniversal, has received acclaim for its picture quality during NFL broadcasts. Now, with the integration of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, fans can expect an even more immersive viewing experience. The latest technology will allow for “more vivid and balanced colors” and “clearer dialogue,” even amidst intense crowd noise.

According to David Bohunek, NBCUniversal’s Global Video Engineering chief, “Our livestreams on Peacock are already in HDR, and we introduced Dolby Atmos as well last year, which made a massive jump in the immersiveness.” He emphasized that the upcoming features will elevate the viewing experience to unprecedented levels.

Starting in 2026, viewers will benefit from Dolby’s AC-4 and Vision 2 technology, which promises to enhance audio personalization. Fans will be able to adjust settings directly through the Peacock interface, including the option to completely turn off commentary if desired. “With the personalization of the audio, we can let the customers do what they prefer with a very simple control,” Bohunek added.

The excitement doesn’t stop there. John Couling, Dolby’s entertainment chief, stated that streaming technology allows for rapid enhancements that traditional broadcasts simply cannot match. He assured fans they will notice a “really dramatic” improvement in their viewing experience.

This innovative announcement aligns with the evolving landscape of NFL broadcasts, following the successful debut of the Madden NFL altcast format in 2024. This format offered fans a unique high-sky camera angle, enhancing the connection to the game, akin to the experience in the popular Madden video game series.

As the 2026 NFL season approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating these changes that promise to transform their game-day experience. With the integration of cutting-edge technology, Peacock is positioning itself as a leader in sports broadcasting, prioritizing viewer engagement and satisfaction.

Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the kickoff of the 2026 NFL season, where these exciting features will come to life, promising a new era of football viewing.
