On March 7, 2026, Pickett’s Corner, a bike ministry operated by Catholic Charities, officially launched its fourth year at the Parish Kitchen located in Covington, KY. The initiative aims to provide adults in need with reliable bicycles for transportation, offering a crucial resource for those requiring assistance in reaching work, school, and essential appointments.

Operating from March through November, the bicycle distribution occurs on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month between 11:00 and 13:00. Since its inception in 2023, Pickett’s Corner has successfully distributed 1,138 bikes, significantly aiding community members in their daily lives.

Community Blessing and Personal Stories

The season’s opening event featured a blessing led by Fr. Aby, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish and St. Ann Mission in Covington. He addressed the attendees, saying, “As we ride our bikes, we enjoy freedom, the beauty of creation, and the joy of journey. Today we ask God to bless these bikes and all who ride them. May the Lord keep us safe on the road, help us respect others, and remind us that every journey in life is also a journey with God and to God. Go and ride in peace.”

Participants expressed their gratitude for the ministry’s support. Willie and Britney, who relocated to Kentucky from Florida and South Carolina, shared their feelings of hope, stating, “We had prayed for transportation and today ended up with a bike. That lets us know God is seeing us and hearing us, and things are going to get better.”

Longtime volunteer Steve Wilmhoff reflected on the ministry’s positive impact, noting, “This is the 4th year with Pickett’s Corner, and it has been a wonderful experience to see what it means to the community. To give people transportation helps move their lives along and improves their ability to get around.”
