UPDATE: San Antonio is poised to celebrate Día de los Muertos with thrilling events this weekend, October 25-26, at both Market Square and La Villita. The city invites locals and visitors to partake in a rich cultural experience honoring departed loved ones.

The vibrant festivities at Market Square kick off with live music, traditional altars, and dance processions. Highlights include the Las Monas Cultural Dance Procession, taking place both days from 1 to 2 p.m.. Attendees can also enjoy face painting while immersing themselves in the cultural atmosphere.

Additionally, a self-guided Altar Tour runs daily until November 3, offering a unique glimpse into the colorful ofrendas—altars dedicated to honoring those who have passed. Each altar tells a poignant story, showcasing the depth of this heartfelt tradition.

La Villita is set to host its own three-day celebration from October 24-26, featuring the Day of the Dead San Antonio River Parade and Festival. This ticketed event will transform the river with altar-adorned floats, and attendees can marvel at the second largest Calavera Catrina and a vibrant display of 20 alebrije spirit-animals and 10 giant calaveras scattered throughout the village.

As the downtown area gears up for the festivities, including concurrent events like Muertos Fest and a Paul McCartney concert, attendees are urged to arrive early. To ease parking challenges, VIA Metropolitan Transit will offer free Park & Ride services to the Robert Thompson Transit Station near the Alamodome on October 25. Pickup locations include Crossroads Park & Ride and Brooks Transit Center.

This weekend promises to be a heartfelt celebration, bringing together the community to honor and remember those who have left us. Don’t miss out on experiencing the vibrant culture of Día de los Muertos in San Antonio!
