Sunnyvale Man Arrested for Cutting Flags, Assaulting Vigil Attendees
BREAKING: A Sunnyvale man, identified as 41-year-old Joshua Krupia, has been arrested for cutting down flags and banners during a pro-Palestinian vigil on the Highway 101 overcrossing. The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on November 7, escalating into a violent confrontation that left two victims injured.
Authorities report that when police arrived at the scene, Krupia was being detained by bystanders. Witnesses indicate that he verbally confronted a group of peaceful demonstrators advocating for Palestinian rights, reportedly shouting racist slurs before using a pocketknife to remove the flags.
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety detailed that the situation intensified, leading to Krupia striking one individual in the head with a flashlight and punching another. Both victims suffered minor injuries, prompting law enforcement to arrest Krupia on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
The demonstration, organized by volunteers from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA), was intended to raise awareness for Gaza and call for justice for Palestinians. CAIR-SFBA Director Zahra Billoo expressed outrage, stating, “This was not just vandalism — it was a hate-motivated attack that left people injured while exercising their right to free expression.”
Krupia has been booked into Santa Clara County Jail as investigations continue into this alarming incident. Authorities urge witnesses to come forward as they assess the full impact of this hate-driven act on the community.
As tensions surrounding social demonstrations rise, this event underscores the urgent need for dialogue and understanding in our increasingly polarized society. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as it unfolds.
