Team USA secured a significant victory over Canada in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, winning the game 5-3 on March 13, 2026. This triumph allowed the American team to advance to the quarterfinals, following Italy’s earlier win against Mexico. Despite a valiant effort from the Canadian team, the red, white, and blue emerged victorious, showcasing their determination until the final out was recorded.

Before the game, former Navy SEAL Robert J. O’Neill, who claims responsibility for the death of Osama Bin Laden in 2011, delivered an inspiring pre-game speech to the players. O’Neill shared anecdotes from his military experiences, infusing humor and motivation into the atmosphere. His recounting of a mission involving the infamous Black Hawk helicopters resonated with the team, generating laughter from both players and coaches.

During his speech, O’Neill described an incident where two stealth Black Hawk helicopters crashed in an enemy courtyard. One of his squad’s snipers misinterpreted the situation, believing the helicopter was part of a training exercise. “He sees it, gets on the radio and says, ‘Guys inside, be on alert, okay? They’re definitely ready for us. They have a training mock-up of our super-secret helicopter in their front yard,’” O’Neill recounted. This prompted laughter as he continued, “So the boss came out and goes, ‘No jacka**, that’s ours because we crashed.’ The sniper replied, ‘Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than the sh*t I used to say.’”

O’Neill’s engaging storytelling not only entertained the team but also served as a reminder of the resilience and teamwork required both in sports and in military operations. His presence and words likely contributed to the team’s successful performance against Canada.

As the tournament progresses, Team USA looks ahead to their next challenge, buoyed by the motivation and camaraderie fostered by O’Neill’s speech. The victory against Canada marks a pivotal moment in their World Baseball Classic journey, highlighting the blend of athleticism and inspiration that drives the team forward.
