The Rambler Food Truck Bids Farewell After 12 Years of Service

URGENT UPDATE: The Rambler, a beloved food truck serving the Twin Ports for over 12 years, has officially ceased operations after its final day on October 30, 2023. This marks the end of an era for local food lovers and signifies a major shift in the Duluth culinary landscape.

Owner Jonathan Reznick celebrated the closure with a farewell event at The Tasting Room, located at 313 N. Central Ave., where fans gathered to reminisce about the delicious offerings, including mahi mahi tacos and bacon-wrapped slaw dogs. “This has always been my baby,” Reznick expressed at the event, highlighting the emotional connection to the food truck that brought joy to countless customers.

The food truck’s decision to retire stems from two primary factors: a desire to focus on the growing special events at Midcoast Catering—which now accounts for 70% of the company’s sales—and the increasing saturation of food trucks in the region. Kelsey Auran, kitchen manager, stated, “We feel as though the food truck scene is in good hands. It’s wonderful to see what else has evolved.”

Throughout its operation, The Rambler became a staple at major events, serving hungry crowds at venues like Bayfront Festival Park and local corporations, contributing to about 15% of Midcoast’s revenue. The Tasting Room, which opened last fall, has quickly become a popular venue for weddings and corporate events, now taking center stage as the food truck rolls to a stop.

Looking ahead, Midcoast Catering plans to transition partnerships with local businesses to enhance corporate catering services. Auran reassured staff, saying, “All of our staff is cross-trained. There’s not going to be a shortage of hours for anybody.” The excitement of new culinary ventures remains intact, with plans for winter tasting events featuring wine and beer pairings.

As for the future of The Rambler food truck, the company is undecided whether to sell it or keep it for potential future use. While the fond memories of food truck life will linger, the team is ready to embrace new challenges in the catering industry. Auran fondly recalled her first major event in 2018, stating, “It was hot, tiring, but we made it through. Looking back, it’s a great memory.”

The farewell of The Rambler resonates deeply within the community, reflecting the changing dynamics of the food scene in Duluth. For those who cherished its vibrant presence, the memories of delicious meals and community gatherings will live on, even as the wheels of this food truck come to a stop.
