Urgent: 49ers Address Wheelchair Accessibility Issues at Levi’s Stadium
UPDATE: The San Francisco 49ers are under fire for inadequate wheelchair accessibility at Levi’s Stadium, as social media influencer Kevin Ortiz brings attention to the issue following a recent game against the Atlanta Falcons. Ortiz, who uses a wheelchair and is visiting every NFL stadium this season, encountered significant challenges securing ADA seating, fueling outrage among fans.
During his visit, Ortiz uncovered that most ADA seats are reserved for season ticket holders and frequently resold at exorbitant prices, sometimes exceeding $1,000. “I had this issue, but I did have an amazing time,” Ortiz stated, acknowledging that he eventually secured seats. However, he emphasized that not every wheelchair user would be as fortunate as he was.
Ortiz typically purchases a standard ticket and attempts to exchange it for an ADA seat upon arrival. This strategy has worked at ten other stadiums, but not at Levi’s Stadium. The 49ers confirmed to KRON4 that they evaluate accessibility seating requests about a week in advance. Ortiz criticized this approach, stating, “ADA seating should be held for the day of the event on a first-come, first-serve basis.”
His journey is documented on Instagram, where he shares his experiences and highlights the accessibility challenges faced by wheelchair users. Ortiz’s visit to Levi’s Stadium not only spotlighted these difficulties but also underscored a broader issue regarding the treatment of disabled fans at sporting events.
In response to growing criticism, the 49ers have acknowledged these accessibility concerns and are reportedly working on enhancing ADA seating for the upcoming season. The organization has initiated discussions with families affected by these issues, aiming to improve the overall experience for wheelchair users.
Ortiz’s advocacy serves as a powerful reminder that individuals with disabilities deserve equal access to sporting events. “People with all types of disabilities want to go to these events and have the means to do so,” Ortiz added. “I hope there’s an adequate number of seats available for everyone.”
As this situation develops, the 49ers are urged to expedite their efforts to make Levi’s Stadium more accessible, ensuring that all fans can enjoy the game without barriers. Keep an eye out for further updates on this crucial accessibility initiative as fan safety and inclusivity remain at the forefront of discussions.
