Urgent: Local Animal Rescue Targeted in Break-In Attempt

UPDATE: A shocking break-in attempt at the Ten Lives Club, a local animal rescue in Hamburg, NY, has left staff and volunteers reeling. The incident occurred early Saturday morning and was captured on surveillance cameras, prompting an urgent call for community assistance.

Marie Edwards, founder and executive director of the rescue, was alerted to the alarming situation via her Blink Camera app while out of town. “I was appalled,” Edwards said. “It was very scary to see the camera and the people. I think they were 18- to 20-year-olds, starting to walk over to our property.”

The video footage shows a group of four individuals, some wearing masks and hoods, approaching the rescue’s building and attempting to break in. They also targeted a neighboring vacant property that Ten Lives Club hopes to acquire for expansion, further heightening concerns. “We’re in negotiations to purchase it right now,” Edwards added. “We don’t need any damage or anything broken or our animals hurt.”

Fortunately, the intruders were unable to enter the premises, but they did manage to destroy two security cameras in their efforts. “They reached up to one of the cameras and tried to take it down,” explained Edwards. “They got some footage of their faces, so hopefully the police can work with that.”

The attempted break-in has left staff members shaken. “The fact that someone would try to break in and possibly jeopardize the well-being of our cats is just disappointing and heartbreaking,” said Kelly Sinclair, community development manager at the rescue. “We’re pretty angry, to be honest.”

In response to the incident, Ten Lives Club is ramping up security measures. Edwards confirmed, “We have somebody going over and putting up boards on all of the windows. We’re going to be extra vigilant here at our building.” Additionally, the rescue is seeking donations to upgrade its camera system for enhanced safety.
