UPDATE: The warmest weather of the year is hitting Myrtle Beach, SC today, just ahead of a significant cold front that will bring showers and potential storms on Saturday, January 20.

This afternoon, temperatures are expected to soar into the lower 70s along the Grand Strand, with gusty southwest winds reaching 20-30 mph providing a warm push. However, a DENSE FOG ADVISORY is in effect, creating hazardous visibility conditions over the Atlantic, particularly on the beaches.

As the warm air collides with the chilly ocean waters, sea fog is likely, though officials state that travel disruptions are not anticipated. For those inland, record-breaking temperatures could be on the horizon, with highs approaching 83°F in Florence and 80°F in Lumberton, both of which may tie or break existing records.

As the weekend approaches, rain chances are set to increase significantly. Authorities warn that Saturday will not be a washout, but residents should prepare for intermittent showers, especially in the early morning and again in the afternoon. As the cold front sweeps through, the risk of thunderstorms will also rise. Despite the incoming rain, temperatures on Saturday will remain mild, peaking in the lower to middle 60s.

Looking ahead to Sunday, lingering showers are expected in the morning, with mostly cloudy skies throughout the day. Breezy conditions will follow as cooler, drier air moves in, dropping Sunday’s highs into the 50s.

Next week, temperatures will plunge further, with mornings dipping into the 20s and 30s, while afternoons may struggle to reach the 40s.
