Urgent Weather Alert: Rain, Snow, and Sunny Spells Hit D.C.
UPDATE: Washington D.C. is bracing for an unpredictable weather mix this week, with forecasts indicating a blend of sun, rain, and potential snowflakes just in time for the Christmas holiday. The National Weather Service has issued an urgent weather advisory for residents and visitors, warning them to prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
As of this morning, temperatures in the capital stand at a chilly 35°F with a humidity level of 76%. Today, expect mostly sunny skies with highs reaching a comfortable 49°F. However, be aware of gusty winds that could reach up to 25 mph by afternoon, shifting from the southwest to northwest.
Looking ahead, Monday night promises an even more dramatic shift. A chance of rain and snow is predicted between 1 am and 4 am, transitioning to rain after 4 am. The temperature will linger around 35°F, with a significant 40% chance of precipitation, which may create slippery conditions for those commuting early Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday, the rain likelihood decreases to 20% before 1 pm, but clouds will remain. Residents can anticipate a high of 53°F with gentle winds from the southwest at 6 to 9 mph. The evening will bring clearer skies, settling around 40°F.
As we approach Christmas Day, D.C. faces a 30% chance of rain mainly before 1 pm, with mostly cloudy skies and highs near 52°F. Those staying in the capital for the holidays will want to keep an umbrella handy, as intermittent rain could disrupt festive plans from Thursday night into Friday, when temperatures could rise to a high of 59°F.
By Saturday, the forecast indicates a return to calmer conditions with partly sunny skies and a high near 49°F, offering a peaceful closure to the holiday week.
Residents are urged to stay tuned for further updates as the weather evolves. The National Weather Service will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide timely alerts as the situation develops. Stay safe and prepared, Washington D.C.!
