Urgent Winter Weather Alert: High Desert Faces Snow Today

URGENT UPDATE: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across the east slopes of the Cascades until 10 AM today, impacting travel conditions in the High Desert. Snow showers are moving through, with accumulations ranging from a trace to a few inches, prompting officials to declare a Local Alert Weather Day.

Motorists should prepare for potentially hazardous conditions, particularly during the morning commute as even light snow can create slick roads and reduced visibility. Brief bursts of snow and wind are expected, which could further complicate driving conditions.

Most snow activity is expected to taper off by early afternoon, although lingering pockets of snow could persist into the early evening hours. Afternoon temperatures will hover in the low to mid 30s, while warmer locations in Jefferson County may reach the upper 30s to low 40s.

Looking ahead, tomorrow’s forecast indicates dry and chilly weather with highs in the mid to upper 30s, as partly to mostly sunny skies dominate the High Desert. However, residents should remain vigilant, as a brief round of snow is possible early Saturday, followed by a partly cloudy day with temperatures in the 40s.

Officials warn that more precipitation is expected to arrive on Sunday, with warmer air causing most precipitation to fall as rain. Some snow may mix in during the early morning hours and after sunset. Monday will remain active with continued chances for mixed showers.
