Woman Charged with Theft After Altering Rental Car License Plate

URGENT UPDATE: A 38-year-old woman has been charged with theft after allegedly failing to return a rental car and altering its license plate, according to a magistrate’s complaint filed in Superior Court. Chelsea Arian Taimanglo faces serious charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, classified as a second-degree felony, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.

On January 19, a Nissan Rent A Car employee reported to the Central Precinct Command that Taimanglo had not returned a 2025 dark gray Nissan Sentra she rented on January 4. The employee indicated that Taimanglo made daily rental payments until January 15. Following that date, efforts to contact her were unsuccessful, and she failed to return the vehicle or make further payments.

Authorities issued an all-points bulletin after attempts to locate the Sentra proved futile. On February 9, an officer discovered the missing vehicle in Yona. Upon inspection, the officer noted that the front temporary plate was missing, and the rear plate had been altered with a black marker to display a different number. A check confirmed the vehicle identification number (VIN) matched the missing Sentra.

Taimanglo was later found at a residence and brought to Central Precinct Command for questioning. During the interview, she admitted to not making rental payments since January 18 but claimed to have communicated regularly with rental company employees, despite providing names that were not associated with the company, according to the complaint.
