The expansion follows a series of international links that commenced in November, including Virgin Australia’s new route from Melbourne to Doha. This route marks the airline’s fourth and final connection to the Middle East in collaboration with Qatar Airways. Additionally, Jetstar has reinstated its service from Perth to Manila, further broadening travel access to the region.

Six Australian cities are set to benefit from these new international routes, with particular emphasis on smaller locations like Adelaide and Darwin gaining vital connections. Among the major airlines entering the market are American Airlines, Delta, and United Airlines. American has doubled its routes to Brisbane, while Delta has introduced service to Melbourne. The most significant new development is United’s route from San Francisco to Adelaide, which will launch on December 11. This flight will mark the first time Adelaide has welcomed direct flights from North America, arriving in South Australia at 09:30 on December 13.

The demand for flights between South Africa and Australia remains robust. Over 200,000 South African-born individuals reside in Australia, with Perth having the highest concentration after Sydney. Additionally, the new service from China Southern to Darwin underscores efforts to revive the travel market after the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, the market had seen around 36,000 passengers in 2019, facilitated by nonstop flights from Shenzhen.
