Cecil College Freshman Jah Dean Awarded Donald J. Waldon Scholarship
NORTH EAST, MD – Jah Dean, a freshman at Cecil College, has been named the recipient of the Donald J. Waldon Memorial Scholarship. The announcement was made during the college’s 49th annual scholarship banquet, organized by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., which recognizes outstanding students.
Dean, originally from Smyrna, Delaware, is pursuing an associate degree in sports management and was a member of the college’s men’s basketball team during the 2025-2026 academic year. The scholarship, which is sponsored annually by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., provides full tuition support—including fees and books—to up to two Cecil College students each year.
Criteria and Impact of the Scholarship
Eligible candidates for the scholarship must attend Cecil College full-time, maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and show active involvement in the community through volunteer work and extracurricular activities. Dean expressed his gratitude for the award, highlighting its significance beyond financial assistance.
“This scholarship means more to me than financial support—it represents belief,” Dean stated. “It tells me that someone sees my potential and is willing to invest in my future.”
Dean’s motivation is further fueled by his role as the oldest sibling in his family. He noted that the expectations of his younger brother and sister inspire him to strive for excellence.
“My little brother and sister look up to me, and that motivates me every day,” Dean said. “I want my brother to see strength, discipline, and integrity in me. I want my sister to know what it looks like to be respected and valued.”
Further Opportunities for Students
Students interested in the scholarship program offered by Alpha Phi Alpha can reach out to Cheryl Davis-Robinson, the director of student life at Cecil College, at [email protected] for more information.
This scholarship aids not only in financing education but also in encouraging students to achieve their academic and personal goals, fostering a sense of community and support among the students and their families.
