CIA Seeks to Equip Kurdish Forces for Potential Uprising in Iran
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is reportedly working to arm Kurdish opposition forces with the aim of inciting an uprising in Iran. This initiative comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East and has been described as part of discussions between the Trump administration and both Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in Iraq.
According to multiple sources, preparations are underway for ground operations involving Iranian Kurdish forces in Western Iran within the next few days. A senior official from the Iranian Kurdish community expressed optimism about the situation, stating, “We believe we have a big chance now.” The possibility of military support from the United States and Israel appears to be a significant factor driving this hopeful sentiment.
Military Movements and Regional Dynamics
Thousands of members from various Iranian Kurdish armed groups are currently stationed along the Iraq-Iran border, eyeing opportunities for action. The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been actively targeting these Kurdish groups, recently announcing the launch of numerous drone strikes against them. This aggressive stance from the IRGC highlights the escalating conflict in the region.
On March 15, 2024, President Donald Trump engaged in discussions with Mustafa Hijri, the President of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, a group that has faced direct attacks from the IRGC. In a related effort, Trump also reached out to Iraqi Kurdish leaders over the weekend to explore potential collaboration regarding the U.S. military operations in Iran.
The situation remains fluid, as the Kurdish forces prepare for what they hope could be a turning point in their long-standing struggle. The upcoming days are critical as these groups anticipate a coordinated response to the ongoing military pressures from Iran.
As this situation develops, the international community will be closely monitoring the actions of the CIA and the responses from both Iranian forces and Kurdish groups. The potential for upheaval in Iran is significant, with the Kurdish forces seeking to leverage what they perceive as a moment of opportunity.
