Dan Bongino Announces Departure from FBI After Nine Months
Dan Bongino, the Deputy Director of the FBI, has confirmed that he will be leaving his position in January 2024. The announcement comes after a brief tenure of just nine months, during which he, alongside Kash Patel, faced significant challenges within the bureau, including declining morale and criticism regarding leadership effectiveness.
In a statement shared on X, Bongino expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve. He stated, “I want to thank President Trump, AG Bondi, and Director Patel for the opportunity to serve with purpose. Most importantly, I want to thank you, my fellow Americans, for the privilege to serve you. God bless America, and all those who defend Her.”
Bongino’s departure has been anticipated, with insiders revealing that his office has reportedly been vacant for nearly two weeks. According to sources within the FBI, the agency has struggled under Bongino and Patel’s leadership, leading to a perception of disarray. A recent report characterized the bureau as “something of a clown,” reflecting the frustrations voiced by personnel.
One staff member commented, “Nobody here will miss him. He has no credibility.” This sentiment highlights the contentious atmosphere that has developed during Bongino’s time in office.
In contrast, President Donald Trump praised Bongino’s performance, stating, “Dan did a great job. I think he wants to go back to his show.” Trump’s remarks suggest that Bongino may be looking to return to his previous work as a conservative media figure, a role he held prior to his appointment at the FBI.
Bongino’s exit adds to speculation about potential changes within the FBI as the new year approaches. The agency has faced scrutiny over its leadership structure, and Bongino’s departure could signal further shifts in personnel as the Trump administration continues to shape its priorities within federal law enforcement.
As Bongino prepares for his exit, the FBI remains at a crossroads, with many questioning the direction of leadership and the overall effectiveness of the bureau in addressing its internal challenges.
