Kathleen Taylor Launches Campaign for Reno Mayor Position

Kathleen Taylor, a current member of the Reno City Council, has officially announced her candidacy for the position of Mayor of Reno. The announcement was made on March 2, 2026, and signals her commitment to fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth in the city.

In her statement, Taylor outlined the critical decisions facing Reno, emphasizing the importance of financial stability and smart growth strategies. “Today I officially filed because Reno is at a crossroads,” Taylor declared. “The decisions we make over the next several years will determine whether our city remains financially strong and positioned for smart growth, or whether we allow short-term thinking to create long-term problems. I’m running to ensure Reno stays on a responsible, sustainable path.”

Focus on Fiscal Responsibility and Core Services

Taylor’s campaign will prioritize restoring fiscal discipline at City Hall while ensuring that essential services remain funded. “Families across Reno are making careful financial decisions in their own households, and they expect their city government to do the same,” she added. “We must prioritize essential services including public safety, roads and infrastructure, and our parks while also addressing our housing supply, all within our means. That takes leadership willing to make tough decisions and stand by them.”

Her agenda reflects the current financial challenges facing the city. Taylor has pledged to protect taxpayer dollars, enhance critical services, and develop housing policies aimed at increasing availability and affordability. She aims to attract new businesses and foster job creation, emphasizing a streamlined government focused on achieving measurable results.

Experience and Community Engagement

Currently serving as the Chair of the Reno Housing Authority and Vice-Chair of the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning and Governing Board, Taylor brings a wealth of experience to her campaign. She holds positions on several boards, including the Building Fund Advisory Committee and the Community Homeless Advisory Board, showcasing her commitment to community issues.

Before her tenure on the City Council, Taylor served for seven years on the Reno Planning Commission, including a term as Chair. She was unanimously appointed to the City Council in September 2022 and was elected to represent the newly established Ward 1 in November 2024, serving as Vice Mayor in 2025.

A native of Nevada and mother of two grown daughters, Taylor earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in public administration from the University of Nevada, Reno. As a small business owner, she understands the significance of fiscal prudence and the need for a vibrant local economy.
