A Russian man, Denis Obrezko, has been arrested on the Thai island of Phuket at the request of the United States, where he faces allegations of cyber-crime. MTI reports that Void Blizzard employs various tactics for initial access, such as “password spraying,” where common passwords are used across multiple usernames, and the exploitation of stolen authentication details. Despite their seemingly basic methods, the group has effectively infiltrated and extracted significant amounts of information from compromised organizations.

In its assessments, MTI has highlighted that Void Blizzard primarily targets government and law enforcement entities, especially in NATO countries and those providing military or humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The group’s activities have disrupted multiple sectors in Ukraine, impacting education, transportation, and defense.

Official Confirmation and Diplomatic Response

The arrest has drawn attention from Russian officials. Ilya Ilyin, a diplomat at the Russian embassy in Thailand, confirmed that a Russian citizen was detained on Phuket last week on suspicion of committing cybercrimes. He stated that the arrest was made at the “official request of the United States,” as reported by the TASS news agency.
