SAMI Transforms into Strategic Group, Unveils New Vehicle Initiatives
Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) has announced a significant transformation from a company into a strategic group. This change includes the launch of two new entities: SAMI Land Company and SAMI Autonomous Systems. The announcement was made during the World Defense Show 2026, with executives emphasizing the new focus on client needs across various sectors.
Launch of SAMI Land Company and New Armored Vehicles
SAMI’s chief communication and support services officer, Wael Alsarhan, described this transition as a pivotal moment in the organization’s journey. He stated that the establishment of SAMI Land Company aims to cater specifically to the needs of land forces. The new company is now operational, featuring a large facility covering one million square meters, equipped with advanced land technologies.
During the World Defense Show, SAMI unveiled its new armored vehicle program, named HEET. The initial offerings include the HEET 8×8 and HEET 4×4, both featuring turret systems. Alsarhan highlighted that these vehicles represent indigenous capabilities, developed entirely within Saudi Arabia, and designed to meet client specifications. Discussions regarding the development timeline and delivery of these vehicles are ongoing, with further details expected to be announced soon.
Focus on Autonomy and Future Developments
In conjunction with the launch of SAMI Land Company, SAMI also introduced SAMI Autonomous Systems, a new entity dedicated to developing autonomous systems across land, air, and sea platforms. While the management team and strategic framework for this new company have yet to be disclosed, Alsarhan noted that it will build upon previous efforts in the field of autonomous technology.
The broader transformation of SAMI entails reorganizing its divisions into separate companies, all under the SAMI umbrella. Previously, SAMI operated five divisions focused on aerospace, land, sea, advanced electronics, and defense systems. While Alsarhan did not elaborate on how this reorganization will affect existing joint ventures, the SAMI Land Company website indicates at least one joint venture is already operational.
Additionally, SAMI has launched a program called RUKN, which translates to “cornerstone.” This initiative aims to enhance local content and support localization efforts by providing value-added capabilities. Alsarhan described RUKN as a fully automated system designed to streamline supplier engagement and registration for opportunities.
The transformation of SAMI signals a strategic shift aimed at fostering innovation and meeting the evolving demands of military clients both within Saudi Arabia and beyond. With these new initiatives, SAMI is positioning itself as a key player in the defense industry, capable of delivering tailored solutions in an increasingly complex global landscape.
