Teen Avoids Trial After 32-Mile Police Chase with Infant

A 19-year-old man, identified as Tandyn Hall, has entered a plea agreement following a police chase that lasted approximately 32 miles while an infant was present in his vehicle. Hall pleaded no contest on Tuesday, accepting charges of fleeing an officer and third- and fourth-degree child abuse. In return, several other charges, including second-degree child abuse and operating a vehicle with a suspended license, were dismissed.

The incident unfolded on November 11, 2023, when a police officer from the Fremont Police Department attempted to pull over Hall for a traffic violation within the city limits. Instead of stopping, Hall accelerated, prompting a pursuit that ended near the intersection of South Poplar Avenue and 28th Street. The chase concluded when Hall’s vehicle became disabled, allowing officers to take him into custody without further incident.

During the investigation, authorities discovered a 6-month-old child in the vehicle, who was reportedly improperly restrained. Medical staff examined the infant and confirmed there were no serious injuries.

In a statement, Fremont Police Chief Tim Rodwell expressed relief that the situation did not result in serious harm. “Our officers acted swiftly to protect not only the public but also those inside the vehicle,” he said. “Incidents like this remind us of our shared responsibility to keep one another safe—especially our youngest and most vulnerable residents.”

Hall is scheduled for sentencing on February 25, 2024, at 10:10 a.m. The case has drawn attention to the serious implications of reckless driving, particularly when the safety of children is at stake.
