Beloved Community Figure Peter John Pantages Passes Away at 96

Peter John Pantages, a cherished member of the Corte Madera community, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on October 27, 1928, in San Francisco, he was the youngest of seven children born to John and Vula Pantages. His siblings included Ted, Helen, Georgia, Gregory, Nicoletta, and Emily.

Peter is survived by his wife of 67 years, Catherine Pantages, and their four daughters, Pamela (and husband Monte), Lisa, Jennifer (and husband Ray), and Maria (and husband Sal). He also leaves behind six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Family gatherings were a hallmark of his life, with many fond memories made during Greek Easter picnics and Christmas celebrations filled with ample food, music, and warmth.

Life and Legacy

Peter served his country in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 as a radio and transmissions specialist. In 1956, he met Catherine, and the couple soon built a life together in Corte Madera, where they raised their daughters. Known for his vibrant personality, Peter became famous for hosting memorable parties on the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve, fostering a sense of community among neighbors.

As a skilled handyman, Peter earned the reputation of being the neighborhood “fix-it guy.” He had a knack for repairs and always seemed to have the right parts on hand for various projects. His professional life began at Park Presidio Radio-TV on Clement Street, where he initially worked as an employee and later became a co-owner alongside his brothers Ted and Gregory. Peter’s expertise allowed him to travel throughout the city, repairing console televisions and radios that others deemed irreparable.

On his days off, Peter enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, while summers were often spent camping on the Middle Fork of the Yuba River. He derived immense joy from these outdoor activities, creating lasting memories with loved ones.

Travel Adventures

Following his retirement, Peter embraced the opportunity to travel extensively with Catherine. Their adventures took them on cruises and journeys across Europe, often for weeks at a time. They also spent time exploring Greece, the homeland of Peter’s parents, traveling in a camper van and immersing themselves in the culture.

Peter John Pantages leaves behind a legacy of love, community spirit, and family connections. His impact will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
