Suspected Arsonist Arrested After Redwood City Blaze
UPDATE: A suspected arsonist has been arrested following a devastating apartment fire in Redwood City that broke out on November 1, 2023. Firefighters rushed to the scene on the 1300 block of Marshall Street at 7:35 a.m. to combat the flames, which left three families displaced.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Eliaser Hernandez-Valadez, was taken into custody after he returned to the scene later that evening, as confirmed by the Redwood City Police Department. Authorities reported that investigators determined the fire may have been intentionally set, prompting a swift response to identify the perpetrator.
“Investigators from the police and fire department learned the fire may have been intentionally set and a suspect was identified,” officials stated. The rapid action by first responders ensured that all residents were evacuated safely, with no injuries reported.
Three apartment units sustained significant damage, displacing residents who are now receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. The organization is providing crucial support as these families begin to recover from this traumatic event.
Hernandez-Valadez faces serious charges, including arson to an inhabited dwelling and reckless burning. He has been booked into the San Mateo County Jail and is also facing a probation violation.
