Spurs’ Dylan Harper Injured in Game Against Suns, Out for Season
UPDATE: The San Antonio Spurs are facing a significant setback as rookie guard Dylan Harper sustained a calf injury during the game against the Phoenix Suns on October 29, 2023. Harper, the No. 2 pick in the recent draft, exited the game in the second quarter after attempting to defend a dunk by Nick Richards.
This injury comes as a critical blow to the Spurs, who are already without veteran point guard De’Aaron Fox, sidelined since the start of the season due to a hamstring injury. The Spurs confirmed at halftime that Harper would not return to the game, intensifying concerns about their depth at the guard position.
Harper appeared to injure his calf upon landing awkwardly after failing to block Richards’ dunk, which pushed the Suns ahead 48-37 with 5:02 left in the first half. He was visibly in pain as he walked towards the bench and subsequently left the court with a member of the Spurs’ medical staff.
Before his exit, the 19-year-old rookie played just 11 minutes, scoring 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Harper has been a bright spot for the Spurs this season, averaging 14.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.2 steals over five games.
The Spurs’ next game will be critical as they navigate through the challenges posed by these injuries. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how the team adjusts without two key players in the lineup. The Spurs are now in urgent need of their remaining guards to step up and fill the void left by Harper’s injury.
Stay tuned for more updates as this developing story unfolds. The impact of Harper’s injury on the Spurs’ season could be significant, making every game crucial as they aim to recover and remain competitive in the 2023-2024 NBA season.
