Urgent: Doctors Remove Leech from Man’s Nose After 10 Days of Bleeding
UPDATE: A shocking medical case has emerged from China where doctors removed a live leech from a man’s nostril after he endured 10 days of persistent nosebleeds. The 38-year-old man sought help from the First Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine after suffering from constant, light bleeding and bloody spit.
This urgent situation unfolded when the patient, after a week and a half of troubling symptoms, underwent an examination using a medical-grade camera. To his horror, doctors discovered a wriggling leech lodged in his nasal passage, actively feeding on his blood.
How did this happen? The man had recently been mountain climbing and washed his face with untreated spring water, which likely allowed the parasite to enter his body. Medical professionals emphasized that while nosebleeds can stem from trauma or dryness, a leech in the nose is an unusual and extreme cause.
Doctors acted quickly, numbing the area and employing a catheter to extract the leech, successfully removing the parasite without complications. The patient is now fully recovered, but the experience has left him understandably wary of any water touching his face in the future.
This incident, while rare, is not entirely unique. A similar case occurred in 2014 when a woman discovered a three-inch-long leech in her nostril after using tweezers to investigate her discomfort during a backpacking trip in Southeast Asia.
The medical community warns against the dangers of untreated natural water, which can harbor parasites. Authorities remind the public to take precautions, especially when in outdoor settings, to prevent such alarming encounters.
As this story circulates, it serves as a vivid reminder of the unexpected risks posed by nature. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story and share this unusual case to raise awareness about the hidden dangers of untreated water.
